So I was watching Tom & Jerry today, and it was awesome. I haven’t seen that show in so long, it just brought back good memories.
The thing it really reminded me of were those old cartoons about the “House of the Future”, which was all ridiculous and stuff. For various reasons. Like the multitudes of robots whose purpose at times seemed only to be to damper a certain cat’s efforts in catching a certain dastardly mouse.
Then that reminded me of another thing which I never truly realized until here recently. Whenever I watched this show, I was usually rooting for Tom. It just seemed like after all this damn time, he kinda deserves to catch the mouse once or twice, you know? Or sometimes during Law&Order, I’m hoping the serial killer outsmarts the cops or the rapist gets away. Do they have a name for that? Like having a Bad-Guys-Need-To-Win-SOMETIME! Complex? Possibly something smaller… simpler… yes. I think I told the Shmeew about this once. And I said that it was a bit different from wanting the bad guys to win, because sometimes I hoped the bad guys would lose too. I think it’s more wanting the side with the least expectation to succeed to win. And that might be why V for Vendetta appealed to me so much. And why the comic book hero movies do not.
You ever wonder what it’d be like if they actually made one of those houses of the future? And you walk in and it’s all complicated and retro at the same time, haha.
Nah, it’d probably need more Rube Goldberg.
